From SDI to IP using intoPIX
Transport of 4K or 8K over existing HD-SDI / 3G-SDI
The mapping of the TicoXS (JPEG XS) or Tico (SMPTE RDD35) mezzanine compression to carry UHDTV 4K 60P over a single HD-SDI or 3G-SDI cable has been fully specified in the SMPTE RDD35 and by intoPIX. intoPIX provides all the needed building blocks to create a 4K over 3G-SDI / HD-SDI or 8K over 3G-SDI solutions. Have a look at the intoPIX TicoXS IP-cores and peripheral IP to map the compression over SDI.
Transport of 4K or 8K over existing SMPTE2022-6 IP protocol
As SMPTE ST2022-6, defines the transport of HD-SDI or 3G-SDI over IP, using TicoXS or TicoRDD35, it is easy to leverage an existing SMPTE 2022-6 system to carry up to three to six UHDTV 4K 60P streams over a single 10 GbE port using the SMPTE 2022-6 standard.
Simplify your live production workflow
in the LAN, over the WAN & to the CLOUD
Replacing SDI - Replacing uncompressed video - Moving to IP (ST2110)
In the LAN
- Cheaper cables (CAT5e<1Gpbs, CAT6<10Gbps)
- Friendly for PC
- No need to re-deploy new cables
Over the WAN
- Cost effective bandwidth: 10x-15x smaller than uncompressed video
- Ease the remote production, VAR, inter-facilities
To the CLOUD
- Efficient in CPU, GPU and FPGA
- Low-latency access (AWS CDI,..)
Beyond 4K HDR Video:
8K production with intoPIX
Over a single 2.5GbE, 5GbE, 10GbE
Over a single 3G-SDI / 6G-SDI / 12G-SDI
It has already been proven. intoPIX can enable you to carry a 8K 60fps video stream over a single 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI or 12G-SDI link with lossless quality.
your whole IP network with JPEG XS
intoPIX's innovative image processing and video compression solutions create bandwidth-efficiency straight from the sensor of HD or UHD broadcast cameras throughout your entire workflow via IP networks.Typical applications for our IP-cores and SDKs are cameras, video editing, KVM, transcoding, recording, multi-viewers, playback and many more.
A standard for
compressed video over IP
Part 22 of the widely used SMPTE ST2110 defines a standardized way for transporting JPEG XS compressed video over IP workflows. The introduction of compressed video to ST 2110 intensifies the already existing advantages of moving to IP based workflows – flexibility, scalability, and unlimited accessibility. Allowing users to transport generally high-bandwidth videos like 4K and 8K over cost-effective COTS 1GbE/10GbE networks.
Contribution and remote-production
with JPEG2000 and VSF TR01
intoPIX JPEG 2000 perfectly suits broadcast needs. Its improved compression efficiency will provide a pristine image quality. Its resolution scalability seamlessly allows the extraction of small resolution proxies from the full resolution, a very useful feature on the acquisition site and during production.
Also, its intra-frame nature provides low latency processing throughout the whole chain, increased error resilience during transmission and easy editing (butt-splicing). Last but not least, its capacity to avoid additional image degradation at each encoding and decoding step provides constant quality multi-generations during the numerous post-production processes of the workflow. Furthermore the unique Ultra-Low-Latency mode developed by intoPIX provides additional benefits for Live transmission
VSF TR01 V1:
J2K over SMPTE 2022 1/2
intoPIX has successfully participated interoperability tests organized by VSF
with intel-and Xilinx-based reference designs. Moreover our efforts have been awarded by an EMMY AWARD in 2015. We have developed a wide range of JPEG2000 encoder & decoder IP-cores, as well as memory controllers and MPEG2-TS IP-cores to enable our customer to create competitive VSF TR01 solutions.
VSF TR01 V2:
J2K with Ultra-Low-Latency
In fields such as live events or broadcast, where time accuracy is a must
and delays are not acceptable, an additional Ultra Low Latency capability has been added to the JPEG2000 IP cores, allowing processing delay of less than
a frame between encoding and decoding.
intoPIX works within the VSF J2K group to update the VSF TR01 specification
to make use of the intoPIX JPEG2000 ULL encoder/decoder cores interop-erable in broadcast facilities.
A long term solution
Image compression is often seen as a transitional solution before network bandwidth is increased to carry uncompressed video again. However, thanks to the lossless quality and near-zero latency of intoPIX's broadcast solutions, it can be a sustainable replacement with various advantages over uncompressed video:
Thanks to the use of forward error correction (FEC), compressed video has lower chances of packet loss on IP networks than uncompressed.
Simply extend from HD to 8K, increase bit-rates, frame-rates, ... without the need of extensive network constructions.
Implementing intoPIX's innovative compression can greatly reduce network investments and allows use of COTS IP products.
What our users say
“intoPIX Tico is an essential component in our solutions for contribution and distribution. And it provides a magic 4:1 reduction in video bitrate without the drawbacks of a conventional codec."
David Mitchinson, Solutions Manager at AppearTV
“We selected intoPIX JPEG 2000 technology for the VS902 platform based on its performance, interoperability and full compliance with the latest technology standards such as the JPEG2000 Broadcast Profile. In addition, their dedicated support and expertise in JPEG 2000 technology enables us to develop highly customized solutions for our customers.”
“All of this would not have been possible without intoPIX TICO supporting resolution up to 7680x4320 pixels, while keeping all its famous performances. Our customers are just expecting to work with raw quality and near-to-zero delay, and only TICO would bring this reality on affordable FPGA."
Yoshizu Taira, OEM Manager at Village Island
“TICO’s imperceptible latency and visually lossless compression allows us to build bigger systems with less bandwidth, which translates directly to cost savings for our clients. What’s not to like?”
Daf Rees, Deputy Director of Operations at ArenaTV
“Uncompressed is great inside a facility, but as soon as you’re going longer distances, or over very challenged links it’s very helpful to have a compression technology. TICO and JPEG XS are both excellent examples of using a basic compression technology to reduce bandwidth, while providing production-grade imagery.”
"Typically, if you would have 4 HD resources available at the broadcast facility, and want to go 4K, you will lose them all. By supporting TICO over SDI, our customers were able to support 4K over 1x3G-SDI, and so keeping the same resources they had for HD. Rather than going to 4K and having to lose the other three HD resources."
Steven Deschuyteneer, Director of Worldwide Sales at DELTACAST
